Feeding the Mexican food addiction

I haven't had Mexican food in what seems like forever. Yeah, there's Rubio's, but that really doesn't count. And while we did have a Chevy's coupon available, we ultimately decided that we needed something closer to the real deal. I thought about maybe using an entertainment book coupon, but in the end, we went to Randy's.

Let me preface this by saying a little about my day. The easiest way to do so would be by the numbers:

3 trips to church
2 trips to the library
2 trips to Jim's parents' house
1 trip to Michael's

75 minutes at a memorial service
60 minutes rehearsing with A.W. for our piano duet next week
45 minutes giving Big A a piano lesson
40 minutes doing crafts with the children's choir and cleaning up afterwards
30 minutes teaching the Bible lesson, playing the piano, etc. in the Primary class
25 minutes accompanying the Kindergarten class
20 minutes at Michael's, trying to find an easy craft for today
15 minutes reserving the recital hall for next week's piano recital for my kids
10 minutes trying to transpose Amazing Grace from F to E flat
5 minutes rehearsing with T.W. to accompany him performing Amazing Grace in F

48 cupcakes handed out for I's 8th birthday
13 hours in high heels
5 conversations I tuned out of because I was too tired to listen
2 tantrums caused in part by me

It was not a good day, to say the least. It's days like these that make me hate church and everything about it. I was literally going non-stop from the moment I woke up at 8:15 until 6 something in the evening when the memorial service ended. By the time I drove back to Jim's house for the second time, I was ready to cry. The fact that I wasn't at all hungry despite not having consumed anything other than half of a Diet Vanilla Coke since breakfast spoke volumes.

So after I had a chance to unwind a bit, Jim took me to Randy's. He parked several blocks away, which I questioned, but ultimately was glad he did. We had the chance to walk down First Street in Benicia, which is something we haven't done in ages. First Street is the only major commercial street in Benicia and is considered the downtown area. It's such a small town that the main street is almost always filled with people walking their dogs or just getting some exercise. Tonight was no exception, and we were among many others strolling down the street. We actually had to wait for a table and ended up walking further down the street while we were waiting. In doing so, we walked past Sandoval's, Randy's main competition.

I know I wrote about the whole rivalry thing before, but out of curiosity, we checked out the place to see how busy they were. We counted four empty tables and didn't seriously consider eating there instead. Amazing, huh?

We finally were seated and brought their yummy salsa and chips. Today the flavor was smokier than usual and had a nice kick to it. Our waitress took a while to take our order due to the packed room, but she was super friendly and nice, so I was okay with it. Besides, we weren't in any kind of hurry tonight. We had previously talked about going bowling or miniature golf, but that was before my day from hell happened. The last thing I wanted to do was, well, actually anything. Part of me just wanted to go home and sleep.

We ordered nachos and burritos as per our usual. Our server recommended that we just start with the nachos, in case we were too full to get anything else, but we went with the burritos anyway. When she brought out our nachos, she said that she hadn't yet put in the burrito order just in case. She was very confident that their nachos would fill us up (shows how much she knows Jim!). Granted, the nachos are absolutely enormous and piled high with all of the fixings--whole beans, two cheeses, onions, tomatoes, jalapenos, sour cream, and guacamole. They were SO good. When the food actually got in front of me, I realized how hungry I was, and I ate way more than I should have.

As we expected, the nachos went pretty quickly, and we did end up getting our usual respective burrito orders. Jim ended up taking home half of his because he had most of the nachos. I have to say, although my stomach hates me right now, that was some really good food. I have really missed Mexican food, and I was very happy to get some tonight. Jim felt the same way, which is an example of our similar tastes in food. I don't think I could be with anyone who didn't love Mexican food. Seriously.
