We always get the garlic bead there because it's amazing. It's drowned in cheese and has tons of garlicky flavor. To top it off, it comes with a roasted head of garlic, just for added kick. Tonight we got smart about it and added the garlic to the regular house bread. It was soo good.

Villa Romano's specialty is their soup, which never fails to live up to their impossibly high standards. Tonight's flavor was a tomato and roasted red bell pepper. It was creamy and rich, with a touch of heat, probably from a smidge of red bell pepper flakes. I never get the soup, mostly because of the fear of it being chicken stock-based, but I'm okay just with a spoonful for a taste and as a dipping sauce for my bread. I usually get the house salad, which comes with a delicious pear vinaigrette, but tonight I went with the Verdure salad, which consisted of spinach, candied pecans, goat cheese, tomatoes, strawberries, and a raspberry vinaigrette. The dressing paled in comparison to the pear version, and I ended up not really using it at all. I also didn't care for the candied pecans, mostly because they weren't all that candied. Overall, the salad macked, so I don't want to give the wrong impression of it.

We both ordered pasta for the main courses. I got the Spaghetti with vegetables. It came in a chunky marinara that was bursting with flavor and a slight kick. It was quite tasty, with tomatoes, sun-dried tomatoes, asparagus, and mushrooms. There was also some parmesan cheese crusted over the top.

Jim ordered the pasta special, which was fettuccine alfredo with chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, asparagus, and mushrooms. He loved it. Then again, how bad can fettuccine alfredo be?

It was a very nice dinner at one of our "classic" restaurants. We sat at the same table we sat at for my 23rd birthday, right next to the fireplace. Wow, that was quite a while ago. I'm getting old.
