Lunchtime treat

Jim worked swings last night, so he was able to take me out to lunch today. He wanted Red Robin, but I am gardenburger-ed out, so we ended up at Quizno's instead. I am the one who introduced Jim to Quizno's years ago. It was the fall of 2000 and he had helped me move into my new apartment (during the pre-dating era). I was really excited to take him there since he loves sandwiches, and Quizno's used to be amazing. This was before it blew up as a chain, so no one had really heard of it and the quality was ten times better. The sandwiches came overstuffed with toppings and were absolutely huge. Anyway, it didn't disappoint and we've been going there ever since. I will be the first to admit that it's not nearly as good as it used to be, but when you become a super popular franchise, I guess that's to be expected.

We always order the same thing: I get a veggie and he gets a honey bourbon chicken. I'm down to a small now, but back in the glory days I was eating the large. Jim vacillates between a regular and a large, depending largely on whether or not we go to Cold Stone next door afterwards. Neither one of us particularly cares for cold sandwiches (Panera is an exception for me), and it used to be that Quizno's was the only place to toast their sandwiches, so we were big fans. My veggie sandwich comes with red onion, mushrooms, olives, tomatoes, lettuce, guacamole, mozzarella, cheddar, and red wine vinaigrette, but I get it without cheese and olives and ask for extra mushrooms instead. Jim's honey bourbon has chicken, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and two dressings. It's supposed to be a "light" sandwich, but I can't imagine they envisioned it that way for the large.

Today they were seriously lacking in the chips, so we split the Baked Original Lays. This is Jim's splurge place where he gets Doritos. Usually we stick to baked chips only, but Quizno's carries Ranch Doritos and they used to have these jalepeno ones that Jim couldn't resist.

They used to have paradise iced tea which I sorely miss. Now they do have Sobe Lean, which is a great deal if you can drink a lot (like us) considering how much you pay for it even at the grocery store. So I guess the drink factor works out just fine.

Tonight we're supposed to go to the gym and then to Burger King afterwards. Jim swears it's been at least 2 years since he's eaten there. I can't believe that, but I will admit that it's been a while.
