Fill me up, Buttercup!

We rarely make it out to brunch due to our conflicting schedules, but fortune smiled on us today, so we took the opportunity to go to Buttercup Kitchen, which is hands down the best chain breakfast place I've ever been to. I'm actually not too impressed with either Denny's or IHOP, but I've never been disappointed with Buttercup. Plus for the first time I remembered to use my AAA card, which is a 10% discount.

I will be the first to admit that I am the Queen of Picky when it comes to breakfast. I make all sort of Sally (of When Harry Met Sally) changes to my selection. But the best part about Buttercup is that they make all of my requests happen perfectly. Jim keeps it simple with the Kitchen Sink omelette with egg beaters and Spanish sauce, which basically comes with everything but the kitchen sink. He gets the O'Brien potatoes and wheat toast for his selected sides. Today I picked the Extra Omelette, which has avocado, mushrooms, tomatoes, bacon, sour cream, and cheeses. I asked for egg beaters, omitted the cheese, got the sour cream on the side, substituted spinach for the bacon, and added Spanish sauce. Pretty bad, huh? But it's basically the perfect omelette for me that way. Their Spanish sauce is super yummy and really takes it over the top. It's slightly spicy, full of flavor, and adds so much to the thing. I also get hash browns, which are always crispy and buttery and full-on delicious without being soggy and greasy (Denny's problem) and a blueberry streusel muffin (what's not to love about that?). Jim and I share all of our sides. He gets a generous serving on my hash browns and muffin, and I take a slice of his toast. I didn't share any of his O'Briens because I wasn't feeling them. I don't love them, especially when given the option of hash browns, but that's not because they aren't good. They may very well be the best O'Briens I've ever eaten. I just don't care for O'Brien potatoes in general.

Anyway, we said goodbye to Sister J and TB today. I finally (!) got to meet him, but unfortunately didn't have time to actually get to know him at all. I had hoped that they'd join us for breakfast, but it wasn't meant to be.
