Game over

I got up early to make dinner, since I had Super Bowl plans. As usual, the fridge had nothing inspiring, so I went with another basic Bisquick casserole dish that ended up tasting pretty good (meaning I wouldn't hesitate to make it again). I soaked some dried imitation ground beef, mixed it with mushroom soup, and frozen mixed vegetables and topped it on a crust of Bisquick, egg whites, water, and cheese. After being baked off for 20 minutes or so at 400 degrees, it was done. Quick, easy, and tasty. What more can you ask for?

For whatever reason, I thought the Super Bowl started at 4:17 pm, so I made reservations for McCovey's at 4:30. McCovey's is a baseball-themed restaurant named after Willie McCovey, one of the more famous SF Giants. Jim and I go every once in a while. The food is good, the ambiance is great, and we thought it would be the perfect place to watch the Super Bowl. Even though it's technically all about baseball, in the off-season, the TVs broadcast all other sports.

Although we were both disappointed with the winner, we weren't wrong about the place. It was absolutely packed, with tons of Giants fans and a few Patriot lovers. We got there just after the kick off, ordered drinks from the bar, and sat down in the bleacher-style seats to wait for our table. Jim got a Blue Moon and I got some sort of martini. I don't remember the name, but it was a blueberry lemon drop. Very tasty. I feel like a total alcoholic, having drank two days in a row, but everyone drinks on Super Bowl Sunday, right? And it's not like I actually finished the drink.

We were seated just in time to see the Half Time show. I only recognized one of Tom Petty's songs, but I thought it was a good show. The Will Ferrell and Rocky-inspired Bud commercials were my favorites by far. Anyway, we ordered their special appetizer sampler, which consisted of nachos, a quesadilla, calamari, and buffalo wings. I really, really, really like their nachos. The black beans are actually seasoned and a little spicy. And their chips--I don't know what they do to them, but they're very crispy even though they're on the thick side. I can't really describe them, other than they're very unique and very good. The quesadilla had green onions and tomatoes inside, which, in my opinion, made them over the top. So good.

For dinner I stuck with a basic gardenburger. I've been eating way too many of those lately, but I wasn't feeling the other vegetarian entrees, which were either pizza or a portabello/eggplant sandwich (my usual). The gardenburger comes on a brioche bun, which is a nice change of pace. And their fries are off the hook. Since Jim didn't get a meal of his own, I gave him most of my fries. I think we were both planning on ordering dessert, but it didn't happen after the horrible ending of the game. There was this drumstick ice cream sandwich another couple ordered that looked amazing. We'll have to try it next time.

We contemplated Cold Stone afterwards, but ultimately decided neither one of us really needed dessert tonight. I surprised myself at how into the Super Bowl I was tonight because unlike baseball, I'm not thoroughly familiar with the game. I'm probably better than the average girl, but I definitely have to ask Jim about some of the penalties and such. Like I don't know which penalties result in a first down or a 5 or 10 yard deficit. And I definitely do not know exactly what each position player does or how many of each there are. So while I follow the game with some assistance, it's not my forte. Personally, I think baseball is way easier to follow and because I can actually see the players, it's more interesting for me to watch. I would be fine never watching any football games, but because Jim loves it so much, I concede with the Super Bowl. Since it matters to him, I try to be supportive. Like he is with my shopping addiction.
