Lunch with Bill and Hillary

Our mistake turned out to be a wonderful one. We attempted to eat at La Charrita, mixing it up with the market (where they had take-out). So we turned lemons into lemonade and went for an impromptu picnic at the park. Jim wasn't overwhelmed with his chicken super burrito, but I thought the veggie version was one of the better burritos I've eaten. The rice was moist and full of flavor, the beans creamy without being refried, and the salsa had a nice kick to it. The guacamole wasn't the best I've had, and let me tell you, it was quite an ordeal trying to pour the guac and sour cream on the burrito (since I ordered it on the side) while sitting on a picnic bench.

I adore picnics, but since Jim doesn't like cold food, we don't have them very often. So I was very, very happy about the change of plans. Plus the meal was under $10, including a Snapple. You really can't beat that. Even if we didn't get to use the Entertainment book coupon. We'll have to try the actual restaurant sometime, but I wouldn't mind going back and getting take-out again. The market was really cute, and they had spices for really cheap there. I might have to go back and get a few for Bobby Flay recipes.

A bunch of seagulls were stalking us, waiting for our leftovers. I had a lot of my tortilla, which I tried feeding to them as it came available, but they went nuts. First there was this crazy male seagull who chased everyone away, bullying all of the other seagulls on my side. He was soon joined by a female gull who took care of the birds on Jim's side. I irreverently dubbed them Bill and Hillary. I went out of my way to throw the tortilla bits to those lucky enough to be standing far away from the evil couple.
