Doublemint Twin Reunion

Okay, so this is a slightly more random dining experience. I performed in a concert this afternoon and there was a catered reception. Ordinarily I wouldn't have written about this, but since I know the caterers, I felt the need to say something. My performance went pretty well, and I was pretty happy with the end result. I played a medley of spiritual duets with AW. As a classical pianist, the pieces were a lot more difficult than they should have been. The rhythms are a little different and harder when performed as a duet.

I was thrilled to discover that AM is pregnant and already looking fat at something like 2 months along. I know that it's petty and immature of me, but since she was one of the girls who made my childhood miserable, I consider it karma that she's already developing cankles and a gut. Even her face is looking chipmunk-y!

The catered food was ick. Okay, again some of my bias coming through, but it really wasn't good. I will admit that a lot of the food was meat, so I can't speak for everything. I only tried the vegetables, which were undercooked but somehow tasted burnt and drenched in some buttery, overly-oily sauce. Thankfully there was a Costco veggie platter and a fruit and cheese platter which had strawberries. I adore strawberries, so I was happy. Oh, and the bread was pretty good, too.

All right, I'm not qualified to say anything about the food. Just the caterers. Ick and (literally) double ick. They're sort of infamous in this town and have been dubbed as the Doublemint Twins by me and Jim. They do everything together and used to walk all over town. In step. Wearing matching outfits. Yeah, they're freaks. But I'm okay with that. I'm not okay with arrogance, which they have in spades. Plus it was a little creepy that each of them asked me out. When I was 17. And they were 26. Gross. They were still at DVC my freshman year, which is how I started getting to know them. I also gave them rides home occasionally, since they didn't drive. Anyway, they were completely stuck on themselves and pretended that they knew about everything and were going to be uber-successful. Again, the perverse pleasure discovering that they are now proud graduates of Western Career College as pharmacy techs. So much for Berkeley engineers. I'm not sure which one I talked to, but he said they had Bachelors of Science degrees, but I think that's BS. Ha, ha. Get it? Oh, and they're going on to med school at UCSF. Yeah, right. He pretended he didn't remember my name, but somehow managed to ask me if I had finished law school at Davis yet. You don't remember me, my butt. I got a little dig in, when he asked me if I had managed to pass the bar yet--I laughed and said years ago. I wanted to be mean and cut him down, but that would have meant talking to him longer, and it wasn't worth it.

What I also wanted to note was that I went to Popeye's Chicken for the first time. Wow. It was quite an interesting experience. First of all, I swear I gained weight just walking through the door. The air was thick and full of greasy, fast-food-y fragrance. They had all of the chickens under a heat lamp and they also had a french fry dispenser. It was really weird being in there, but I was fascinated. Jim was picking up the food for his parents, and I tagged along out of curiosity.
